Three Little Words

Wednesday night Gretta said three little words that I have been waiting to hear. "I love you" It is so sweet!! She has been repeating almost everything we say lately. Her list of words is climbing fast at her 15 month check-up we were already at 30 +/- . And she has really taken off since then. Some other additions to her vocabulary are Elmo, Grandma "Mama"(just said it this evening!), Aubrey (our friend), basketball, cold, cool, where are you?, and Me (one we use often). So, just wanted to share the good news. I loved hearing "Mommy", but "I love you" tops the charts.

Working in the Kitchen

We are another step closer to completing our kitchen project. The guys worked really hard this weekend putting in our kitchen sink and counter tops. They look beautiful. Through the process of taking pictures of the kitchen being completed we also got some pretty cute pictures of Gretta helping in her own little way. These are a few of my favorites!

Christmas Pictures

I tried to take pictures of Gretta tonight in her Christmas dress for our Christmas cards. And it was not an easy task. She is all over the place. She would not stand still. I could hardly catch a smile. Finally I got some pictures that I thought I could put on our card so we called it a night. As I was loading them on the computer I thought it looked pretty cool running through all of the shots fast. So, you have my creation above! Enjoy!! Do you know what picture I will choose???

Christmas at the Indy Zoo

We got to have some fun this past weekend with an invitation from the Farnys. We went to the Indy Zoo to see the christmas lights. It was a little cold, but that just gave me an excuse to get some Hot Chocolate. Gretta seemed to enjoyed herself as well as Noah. It was Noah's first visit to the zoo so it was nice to be included in one his first adventures! :) We got some good photos which I have included.Hope everyone is doing well and getting to enjoy some of the Christmas festivities around you. We are having a pretty busy week this week. We had Aubrey over on Monday. We went to Indy on Tuesday. Wednesday we are going to Braxton & Mackenzie's Christmas Program as well as Christmas Shopping with our small group at church. Then Friday we have a Christmas gathering with friends. So, it will be a busy week, but lots of fun!

15 Month Check-up

Tuesday, December 1st Gretta had her 15 month check up and all is well. Finally, she weighs 20 lbs. so we can get the toddler car seat and she will be able face forward now. Yeah!! And she is 29 ½ inches tall. She seems to be ahead in her verbal skills she has over 30 words that she can say and at this age the Dr. likes to hear that they can say 5-6 words. She is even starting to put a couple words together like where going and what doing. So, I have a feeling at our home we won’t have much quite time anymore. When it is just Gretta and I or all three of us, she pretty much jabbers nonstop and you’ll hear some words that you know but a lot that you don’t. I find it interesting now though that I can ask her what did you say? And she can repeat it. Even the jabber is the same. So, it must mean something I just don’t know what it is. She is so much fun.

So, Gretta’s hair is growing and the other day I got pulled up in her first ponytail. It was so cute and I wanted to share the photo.

Thanksgiving

So, we had a great Thanksgiving. We went to my Mom & Dad’s and my sister Carrie and her family was there and we had a lot of fun. Gretta watched the Macy’s Parade and she really got excited about some of the balloons. Cally and her family were not with us this year they were actually at the Macy’s Parade which is awesome and I hope that we get to go one year.
Sunday we had Thanksgiving with the Welchs at Elijah’s Aunt Sherry’s. It was fun too. There are a lot kiddos running around which made it very entertaining. Gretta and I played with one of the cousins who has one of the best imaginations that I have seen. A lot of the family had not seen Gretta recently so it was nice that they got to play with her and be around her on Sunday. It was a really nice Thanksgiving. Lots to be thankful for.

And I can hardly wait for Christmas. We have gotten most of our Christmas shopping done. Our tree is up and decorations are almost complete. I will begin wrapping our presents very soon. I cannot wait to wake up with Gretta Christmas morning. I love the holidays!!

No Pictures Yet!

Sorry, I have been trying to upload our picture/slideshow and it is not working. I have to go for now, but will try again tomorrow.

California Vacation

So, we have been back for two weeks now and I am just getting around to posting our pictures. It has been a crazy month with our trip to California and then Thanksgiving.
We had the best time. Gretta did awesome flying out and back. She enjoyed Sea World and the Zoo in San Diego and Elijah and I really liked the Sequoias and Santa Barbara. I actually loved everything about the trip. We got to see so much. PLUS, we got to hang with our really good friends Carrie & Ryan who we haven’t seen in a while. We will definitely go back. I would love to retire someday in Santa Barbara the beaches are beautiful and the whole environment is just fabulous I can’t even describe it. I have been told that there is a Mini Marathon or Marathon there so maybe I will look into that. Either way I would love to go back there and stay a couple days, week, maybe a month, ha, ha…
Elijah’s favorite thing was the Sequoias. This probably won’t surprise anyone since he is so outdoorsy (if that is even a word). We got some really nice pictures there. We got see a few bears when we were driving up the mountain which was really cool. I love seeing wild animals like that, as long as they can’t get to me.
I think one of Gretta’s favorite things were the two cats and dog she got to live with for 9 days. Carrie & Ryan have a dog Jellybean, a cat Big Boy and another cat Berkley (aka: Mullet).
Okay, so here is a summary of everything we did Day 1 we hung out around Bakersfield (where Carrie & Ryan live), had lunch with Ryan which was tons of fun!! ; Day 2 Sequoias loved it! Plus we stopped to see Ryan’s big project-Waste Water Treatment Plant, Carrie & I could hardly pull ourselves away; Day 3 Drove to San Diego and went to Sea World; Day 4 San Diego Zoo, got kind of lost it was such a big place. Good thing we had to engineers with us…ha, ha…; Day 5 Drove back to Bakersfield; Day 6 Santa Barbara, Heaven on Earth; Day 7 Carrie & Ryan had to go back to work so Elijah explored in Bakersfield ended up at the mall; Day 8 Carrie & Ryan @ work Elijah, Gretta and I drove up to a mountain town called Kernville. Lots of old western movies had been filmed there several with John Wayne. Was a beautiful drive. Day 9 ha, ha..probably not the best, but oddly enough it was the thing that I was looking forward to the most, Hollywood. What a disappointment. It was dirty and scary. I was terrified that someone was going to kidnap Gretta. BUT we got to eat at the California Pizza Kitchen which is my new favorite place to eat. YUM! That night we said goodbye to our SUPER friends, Carrie & Ryan and we stayed at a hotel near the airport so we were ready to fly out Sunday. Day 10 we entered a chaotic LA Airport and it took us hours to get to our gate which is crazy. But we arrived home safely and that is what matters most!
We had such a great time and we really appreciate everything Carrie & Ryan did to make it soooo much fun!!

Fall Fun!

There is not a whole lot going on around here. We have pretty much been keeping up on our home chores and hanging out with friends and family. Elijah has been plugging away with the final touches of the kitchen, trim mainly, and we are pricing to find out where we are going to order our kitchen countertops. Gretta seems to be learning new words every day. Most of you have probably seen her do the little hand gesture when she doesn’t know something. Well, now she is actually saying “don’t know”. It is super cute. She has mastered the word “up” when she wants you to pick her up however she also has been saying “up” when she wants down. So, we always try to say you mean down and then we put her down. Well, I started noticing yesterday she asked me to pick her up and then she wanted down and she said “dup”. I know it is still not correct but it’s a start.
This past weekend we had a lot of fun. We had some friends over and had a cookout and watched a movie. Gretta was the only child there so she got lots of attention and she enjoyed that. She even made a new friend. Which Elijah and I were kind of surprised. It usually takes Gretta a while to warm up to someone but our friend Matthew when we were watching the movie she just crawled over and up on his lap and spent quite a bit of time there. It was super cute and his wife, Kelly, was frustrated because she had been working all night to try and hold Gretta.

Then Saturday we got to visit with our good friends The Farnys. Noah is growing so much. And I got to hold him a couple of times this visit. So, that is always a good thing. It seems like we don’t get to see each other as much since the kiddos came along, which is kind of a bummer. But when we do get together I always enjoy it. And someday Gretta and Noah will probably be great playmates and will be able to go off and entertain themselves. Hopefully they won’t get into too much trouble together. Ha, ha…

So, we continue to plan for our trip to California, it is only about 2 weeks away before we leave. I am extremely excited and I have started to strategize how we can pack and try to fit all our items into one suitcase so we don’t have to pay as many luggage fees. But we’ll see I am not sure how that is all going to work I usually need two suitcases just for myself, one for clothing and one for makeup/hair supplies. Anyway, I am sure we will make it work. Well, that is all I have for now. Enjoy the photos from this past week.

Month 14

Gretta and I had the pleasure to go and spend somtime with her Grandma & Grandpa Shannon plus two cousins She is working on her P sounds and last night we were looking at pictures and she said "pap" when she saw grandpas...yeah!! And we think she might have tried to say Caleb. Which is Elijah's brother and Gretta's uncle.

She is learning some pretty crazy dance moves. She has started doing this thing where she bends down somewhat like the yoga downward dog pose and the she will lift one of her legs up. Then she does the running in place like she is dancing as well. I will try to capture these smooth moves on video and post them. I don't where she gets her dancing skills from but one of these days she is really going to be bust a move. Okay well that is all I have for now. She doesn't go back for a Dr. check-up until December 1st. But we can tell that she is growing and developing each and every day. I hope you enjoy the pictures that I have posted from the last couple weeks.

A Summer Favorite

Summer End

So, Labor Day has come & gone and it is now time to prepare for fall. But wait I am not the best blogger so let me give you our summer summary. We kicked the summer off with water babies. Gretta loved getting in the pool. She couldn’t do much but splash, but she was loving it! Elijah celebrated his first Father’s Day it was unforgettable I’m sure, however I can’t seem to remember exactly what we did. I am confident that we had a great time whatever it was! O yeah we threw Noah and his parents a baby shower and we got to see our good friends Carrie & Ryan (clear from Cali) in the process. All I am going to say about the party is that the cake was amazing. Ha..ha…We had a good time getting everybody together. Elijah & I celebrated our 9th Wedding Anniversary with one of our first evenings out since Gretta arrived. We missed her terribly! On to July….first off I left my work at the YMCA and became a full-time Mommy. One of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made. We celebrated the 4th in style with my parents in Carmel, IN. The Carmelfest was a bust! It was rainy, the parade was a disappointment, but we got a lot of laughs out of it. Thank goodness for the mall!! July, july, what else happened??? We continue to work on the kitchen. Not a whole lot else going on. Moving on to August. Of course the big 1st birthday happened which I did get posted. We had such a fun party with all our family and friends. We are so blessed. After the 1st birthday party we headed down to Brookville Lake for our annual week long camping trip. It was Gretta’s first camping experience and I believe she loved it. We three slept in our tent. Which she seemed to enjoy playing in during the day time. We got wet, a lot more than any other camping trip I’ve ever been on, but it was still a good time. We went to the State Fair!! Yeah!! I love the State Fair. Gretta loves animals and really enjoyed see all the different ones. Except for maybe the pigs, she wrinkled her nose and did her stinky snort that she does when she smells something stinky…so cute!! Elijah had an ice cream fiasco. It makes me laugh just thinking about it. I believed he called it a “disaster”… basically what happened is the boy ordered to big of an ice cream cone and it was melting faster than he could eat it...hilarious. Another one of Eli’s food dilemmas. LOL very funny. Gretta wrapped the month up with her 12-month check up. She weighed in a little smaller than expected but she is happy and healthy so no need to worry about weight gain at this point. We just hope she puts on the pounds here the next couple of months. And here we are in September. So, needless to say we had a really fun summer. I am still chuckling about the ice cream “disaster”…sorry, I’ll move on.
So, want a glimpse of what is in store for us this fall. We’ll we hope to have more play dates with Noah, Aubrey and Grandma Shannon. We are looking for the perfect dog Halloween Costume. And even more exciting we are heading out to California the first of November to visit Carrie & Ryan our friends. Yeah!! And we hope to have a kitchen counter top by the end of September actually. I am continuing to try to find my groove as a stay-at-home mom. So, I am working on getting the kitchen all organized, planning a closet that Elijah’s going to build for our bedroom, and getting my laundry room organized. Well, that is the Welch update for now. We hope to post more in the coming months. I am also working on some pictures from this summer to get posted. Those should be out soon! Until next time…happy blogging!! (I am soooo cheesy!)

Gretta's First Birthday Party

Happy Birthday Gretta!!

So, it is definitely time for an update. Gretta will be 1 tomorrow, Monday, Aug. 10th. It is hard to believe that it has already been a year, but it is even harder to remember what life was like without her. Well, to be honest I do remember a little bit about those care free days and 8 hours of sleep each night. Can’t imagine now not getting to see her smiling face in the morning, hearing her laugh as her Dad tickles her or the way she squeals every time she sees a dog. Who needs sleep!
So, Gretta has had many first here in the last week. We celebrated her 1st Birthday Party last Sunday with all our friends and family. We had a cupcake celebration. It was good to have everybody together.
Then we went camping this past week which was a lot of fun. The three of us slept in a tent was fine until about 6 a.m. on Monday morning when it started raining and lightning. So, we had to move in to the camper, except we didn’t take all our stuff which end up wet. So, for the next two night we were all in Elijah’s Mom & Dad’s camper until our bedding dried out. But then it was smooth sailing and we had gorgeous weather. For the most part I think Gretta enjoyed her camping experience. It was hard for her to understand that she could get down and crawl everywhere like home. But once the tent was dried out we spent some time in there playing and crawling about.
We spent Friday at Gretta’s first State Fair experience. She loved the animals and her first Dairy Bar Chocolate milkshake. She can now say cow pretty good. So, we can add that to her list of first words. It was perfect weather. Uncle Caleb went with us which made the day even more fun.
And then tomorrow of course is the big birthday. We don’t have a lot planned Elijah will be working like a regular Monday of course. So, I plan to just play with Gretta most of the day and then we are going to fix one of her favorites for Dinner, Macaroni and Cheese and then we will have a cake for the three of us. Gretta didn’t tear in to her cake at her official birthday party, so I plan on giving her her on piece and see how that goes and hopefully get some good pictures.
This has been a fun and challenging year. I have learned a lot about being a parent and a lot about myself. I found as I have become a parent that I quickly found out what my priorities are and what I can live without. And for sure there is definitely one thing I cannot live without and that is Gretta. Elijah and I have been so blessed to have such a good baby. Pray that the Toddler Years go just as smooth.

On the Move!

Gretta is on the move! She has started crawling like a champ and she is now everywhere. Which is actually not too bad, it is actually kind of nice. The scary part is she can also pull herself up on anything and at anytime she will attempt to let go and try out her walking skills. She is getting steadier every day. I believe the most steps Elijah and I have seen her take alone is 6. So, we have moved in to a totally new phase with her and it is going to be fun, no doubt. She has actually just left me in the living room and headed to the kitchen to play with a balloon she got a couple a weeks ago. She had her 9 month check-up a week ago. And she is doing great. She is at a whopping 17lbs. and 26” long. The Dr. says she is really strong and is showing signs of an early walker. So, we were very pleased with her appointment.
Just a little update about us. Our Kitchen cabinets are almost done. Elijah is working what will hopefully be the final coat of polyurethane on the doors tonight. Then in another week or so we will be hanging them on the cabinets. So, that will make life in the kitchen with Gretta a little easier. Now that she is mobile she is able to pull things out because there are no doors. Things are coming along nicely and all is well at the Welch home. We can’t wait to have Grandma & Grandpa Seerley back in a couple of weeks. They will be getting back from their annual trip to Florida. Nothing else really to tell. So, I will go for now. Hope everyone has a great week!

April 24, 2009

So, it was a big week at the Welch Home. Gretta’s first two teeth broke through. She has been showing signs of teething since December, and now you can finally feel them and see a little. Bless her heart she ran a fever for a couple of days this week and now seems to have a little rash, which doesn’t seem to concern the Dr.’s Office, but I was slightly worried this morning when I started to notice the little bumps. So, I call and they tell me as long as it does not get “really bad” she should be fine and it should clear up in a couple days. So, I being the first time somewhat panicked mom that I was today, I asked the Nurse to define “really bad”. Cause my baby with a rash on her little face, neck, back, and chest is really bad, so I am going to need some clarification. Anyway, the Nurse says and the “book” says her mood is one of the most important indicators if she is really sick. And Gretta was her normal happy, giggly self today and that made me feel a little better.
The “book” I was referring to was What to Expect in the First Year. I love it I refer to it at least once a week. And as I am looking up Gretta’s rash symptoms today, o my goodness, there are lots of illnesses out there that she could get a rash with some are no big deal, others are a little scary. Anyway I read that before I called the Dr. and that probably did not help with my panic. I had just read about the effects of Scarlet Fever and they are telling me to give it a couple of days…YIKES! Ha, ha… I am crazy!! I am starting to believe parenting makes you that way. A while back when we were trying to get Gretta to wave, you wave kind of silly, hopefully you know what I mean. Anyway at the Y I was talking to Gretta and trying to get her to wave and a regular member of ours was leaving and he said bye and I say bye bye and wave like I do with Gretta, I forgot to come out of Mommy mode I used the voice and everything. Crazy…that and I almost always now have something on my shirt, she drools on me or spit up, now she has started wiping her nose on me. It is disgusting. And I don’t always notice so you go into public places looking as if you are a walking tissue.
So, are best friends are about to have a baby, they are a week away from their due date. It is so exciting. We can hardly wait! Even Elijah is anticipating the phone call. We don’t know if they are having a boy or a girl. I am pulling for a girl so some day Gretta and Little Miss Farny can share outfits and play Barbie’s together. But on the other hand a boy would be nice too. He could help make Gretta tough and they could play cops and robbers.
Okay well my laptop battery is fading so I should probably wrap it up. And I still haven’t thought of a title for this post, so I think I will just put the date. I apologize for my lack of creativity.

Gretta's First Easter

Gretta 8 Months and Growing

So, it has been a long time since I have been on here and lots has changed. Gretta is growing and changing so much every day. She definitely is jabbering a lot. She has been saying Mama, Dada, and lots of other little sounds. But this weekend I really think she is starting to get that I am Mama, and Elijah is Dada. When I came in to the room a little bit a go she said Mama Mama. And if you ask where Dada is she starts looking for Elijah. Very cool.
So, another adorable development is she now waves. She started last Friday, Good Friday actually. When we would tell her bye and wave at her she would put her arm straight up in the air. So, we have really been encouraging her to wave a lot and she is now starting to add the wrist motion which is so cute.
She has been trying to clap, but is have some trouble she slaps her hands on top of one another and that is considered her clap. If you clap she mimics you by doing this. It is so funny. I’ve tried showing her how to put her hands together, but she just laughs and goes back to her own way. Sounds just like her father…ha, ha…
Walking is right around the corner. She loves to stand up and hold on to your hands and take steps with you. She will occasionally let go sometimes she can stand a little on her own and others she goes right down. But the standing on her own is getting more frequently. She can pull herself up on several things and she tries on most anything. The other day she tried to pull herself up on an empty laundry basket and that did not turn out so well.
Her eating habits are changing quickly too. She eats a lot with us. Tasting what we are having for dinner. But still the majority of her meal is baby food. She loves Sweet Potatoes for a while we could get her to eat nothing else. But now she is starting to get back in to the green beans, peas and other veggies. She also likes fruit and yogurt. The past 8 months have been so much fun and such a learning experience. Gretta is such a good baby. We are very lucky to have her. Well, I hope to not wait as long to post next time. I will try to be more regular. I hope everybody has a great week!! Love ya!

6 month Wellness Check

So, today was Gretta’s 6-month check-up. And I have to say I am blown away. First off Gretta has gained a whopping 2.5lbs which is great and she is now 25 inches long. Which puts her in the 10th percentile of height and a little above the 5th percentile in weight. Dr. Shoemaker was very pleased with the way she could sit up on her own and pulling herself up. She is very strong. Growing very nicely.

Then we were talking about her diet, certain foods to start introducing, etc., this is the part that blew me away. For the last week or so Gretta has been eating Stage 1 Vegetables and as I found out today Stages are pretty much determined by the consistency of the food. She is now ready for Stage 2 and we are free to feed her table food mashed to this consistency as well – I can hardly believe that it is already time for this. But here is the big one – she is ready for Apple Juice. So, we are to start out with about 2-4 oz. a day diluted with a little water and we should give that to her in a SIPPY CUP! I thought I was going to fall off my chair. A Sippy Cup?? That seems like such a big girl thing to drink out of. But the Dr. says now is the time to start transitioning her because by her 1st birthday you won’t want her to be using a bottle anymore. When I think sippy cup I think toddler and walking and talking. Not my sweet little Gretta who is still just a newborn baby. So, on my way home I caught myself thinking about this big event that is about to take place and on the verge of tears I thought she is getting so big – then it hit me- Oh crap- I am one of those Moms. You know the ones that cry about everything and hate to see their sweet baby grow-up. Before I had Gretta my thought would’ve been it is only a different kind of cup, what’s the big deal. How quickly things change. And I have to keep reminding myself she is only 6 months old these changes are small compared to the ones that are ahead of us. When she takes her first steps and will be able to run from me – in the grocery store, her first day of School, her first boyfriend, her first car, going off to college at Purdue (of course!), getting married….and the list goes on and on. So, as I put things into a little better perspective, I am now thinking YIKES, let’s just start with the sippy cup.

So, to wrap it up she is doing very well. She is in the beginning stage of crawling which is excellent. She will probably start saying Da-Da in the next month or so. Ma-ma typically comes a little later. I am working to try and change this with Gretta’s Development, so we will have to wait and see. Ha, ha… She is such a great baby. This is a really fun age as she really starts to play with her toys and interact with us. I will try to embrace the changes that are coming and try to not to fall apart in the grocery aisle when I stop to purchase a sippy cup!

February in a Flash

February has flown by. I have not even had time to post anything in a while. However, I have been working with our Movie Maker Program to get some new pictures put into a movie. And thanks to my sweetie for my itunes gift card I have some new music to put with our pictures. And again I owe Elijah (a/k/a Sweetie, Mr. Wonderful) the credit for getting the music attached to the video file, something I could not figure out on my own. So, I hope you enjoy the Movie we made.

Gretta has her 6 month check-up Tuesday. She has been eating her vegetables. So far she has had Squash, Carrots and Peas. She has been doing really well starting solids. It has been a lot of fun watching her expressions to the different foods. we should find out more Tuesday on how to continue her new diet changes. Well, that is all I have time for now. Hope everyone has a good week!

Our Favorite Picture of the Weekend

Gretta's First Taste of Cereal

So this has been a really fun weekend. We decided to go ahead and give Gretta her first taste of cereal. Within the last week or so she really started to show signs of wanting solid foods. So, we decided since she is only about a week away from 6 months, which by the way is crazy, it was a good time to start. She did a great job. Using a spoon is of course a totally new experience to her, so she did more sucking off of it, almost like she was eating from a bottle...Go figure! So, a lot more got on her than in her mouth.

She got some more cereal today as well. We had a lot of fun feeding her and cleaning her up. However, I do hope she will continue to develop her spoon eating skills a little more...ha, ha...she was a mess!! Below is a video that I put together so you could get a glimpse of the process.

Snow Day!!

So it has been a beautiful snow day the Welchs. Gretta and I had pleasure to watch this wintery weather from our kitchen window. Elijah had to head off to work even though weather was not ideal for traveling, but he made it safely in both trips...he loves the drive on the snowy roads.

Anyway, wanted to give a Gretta Update. She is now "creeping" which is like the first stage of crawling as I understand it. She basically scoots herself around the living room floor, now carpeted, which is great! She is so cute doing it! We also have been receiving this magazine every couple of months that talks about Gretta's development. Anyway, this month's issue was all about feeding her solids. In about a week she will be started on rice cereal. Which is exciting, but sad. I realized today that in the beginning that seemed so far away, before she would be taking anything but milk. Then as I read on I realized that by 9 months which is only 3 more months she could be eating at the table with us, feasting on what we are eating mostly. It is going by so fast. She has been with almost half a year. Which I admit is a short little life compared to my 27 years, but still...anyway what everyone says is true it goes by in a blink. But I am not worried about that. We are just enjoying every minute of it. Well I need to go my baby girl is crying for her mom. Til next time happy blogging...ha, ha..I am so cheesy!

A New Year with New Developments

So, it has been a while since I have blogged it has been a busy time a the Welch Home. Gretta is growing and developing nicely. She has started to reach for things now and she reaches for everything. She is in to touching everything and putting it in her mouth. It is so cool to see her get this new level of communication for something that she wants, like me!! She reaches for me a lot which is very exciting! Today, she was with her Grandma and Grandpa Welch while Elijah and I went to the Y to run and play basketball, anyway, when we got back and we walked in the room her face lit up and she started cooing, wiggling, and reaching for us. It was great!!

We are having a great new year. As I get to work part-time now it has been great staying home more with Gretta. I love it! Well, that is all I have time for now. Hope to blog more later.
